Electric Choice and Competition

Power Deregulation

The Electric Generation Customer Choice and Competition Act has opened Pennsylvania's electric generation (power supply) service to competition. This means you can choose the company that generates your electric power.

There are three parts to your electric power:

  • Generation: the making of electricity.
  • Transmission: moving electricty from where it is made to where it is used.
  • Distribution: the local wires, poles, and equipment that deliver the electricity to your home, farm or business.

Generation is the only part that is open to competition. Transmission and distribution continue to be regulated. Local line repairs and service continue to be the responsibility of Warren Electric Cooperative.

How You Will Benefit

Warren Electric already buys electric power for you and nearly 9,000 other homes, farms and businesses. The co-op is able to get a good deal because of this combined buying power. The co-op's load management program helps to lower power prices even more. As competitve power supply electric drops, we'll get even a better deal, and most importantly - the savings will go directly to you, the member.

Warren Electric continues to work on programs and plans that will save you more money.

You are not required to do anything to continue your present electric service with Warren Electric.
